I have had a lot of jobs beginning at the age of 16 that have somehow lead me to where I am today. I am a high school teacher and coach towards the end of my working days and closer to retirement. I began my working actually as a small child going with my dad on weekends to help him lay carpet (actually I was the carpet scrap piker upper). I used the broom and a trash bag and cleaned up all the pilings that he cut off when he installed linoleum or carpet part-time on weekends. I made an amazing 50 cent piece or a silver dollar every time I helped him out and have a big full bag of them that he gave me to this day. My first real job was driving a school bus at the ripe old age of 17. Yes, when I was a kid if you were responsible and did the right things in school. They would hire you to drive the school buses before and after school. It was not to be taken lightly and I am amazed that we survived and never had a wreck or accident that I know of for any of my buddies. There is no way I would allow a teenager to drive now with cell phones and all the other easy distractions they have.
My second real job was working in a factory in High Point, NC over the summer months between high school and college days building tables at Lampard Table company. To this day, I can still smell the dust and smoke that was always flying around in the air in that building. My dad was friends with the owner and got me a job there and it taught me that I did not want to build tables the rest of my life. My third job was working at the Holiday Inn in Boone NC while I was in college. I was attend class, go to football workouts or practice and then work Saturday-Monday Nights doing the 11pm-7am shift for about 30 hours a week to make money for college. I was on scholarship and all but did not want my mom and dad to foot all the expenses of an apartment and car so I worked. It was hard but It helped me know that you can do whatever you wanted if you applied yourself and pushed it to the limit.
My first job out of college was coaching football and sub teaching. I then left the teaching field for many years to pursue Business Jobs and they ranged from warehouse management, retail rent to own, insurance services and weekend truck driving. I then went back to what I wanted to do and that was teach and coach. Along the way I have still did some side hustles like delivering furniture on weekends, working summers doing home improvement, live streaming, building and running web sites and lots of other ways. I am a workaholic as you may see and my parents taught me the value of the dollar you made and how it is important to save and protect. I am currently 57 years old. Serve as a full time teacher and coach, live stream nightly on BIGO and run two websites. I like my money in the bank and not on my feet is a a saying I have told my kids for years. in other words, you go buy and wear your $300.00 Nikes. I will go and get a good comfortable pair of Sketchers and live my best life with all that other money sitting in the bank waiting on me to spend it in a few years when I retire officially from Teaching and EVERYTHING!
