I love to watch both the summer and winter Olympics. It is part of Americana and the tradition of great competition and athletes that come from America. My most favorite to watch is wrestling and track/field. I am a wrestling coach and former wrestler so the sport entangles me and mingles in my life a minimum of 7 months a year. I ran track in school, well I through the shot and discus so not really a “runner”. Still not a runner to this day but I do like to walk around the track at the high school. I like to see the young folks compete in track and field, baseball and softball. I wish they had football and that would just make it even better.
The unique sports they offer is what pulls me in. Watching cross country activities, shooting activities, swimming and other sports if fun and interesting to me. I wish the Olympics were more often and really love watch the Special Olympics and Para games. As a long time exceptional children teacher I have a huge part of my heart invested into those folks with disabilities. My favorite event of the year is to go and watch the local kids participate in the special Olympics. They don’t seem to know they have a disability and try so hard. They smile, run, race, throw, compete and show the best sportsmanship. It is heart warming and something you will never forget.
